Traditional crafts meet experimental design process

Industrial designer Clara Lindsten have been developing the furniture collection CRAFTWORKS . It is a blend of traditional craft and modern design process, experiments with production techniques and
re-interpretations of classical shapes. The collection is created in sustainable manners and made by craftsmen in two opposite parts of the world.

It is the outcome of a research into Swedish crafts combined with frequent trips to Vietnam, where Clara Lindsten collaborates with VINH LONG JTC, - a natural fiber company situated in the Mekong delta, two hours from Saigon.
Craftworks is inspired by dreams of distant places and combines exotic references with Scandinavian simplicity. The objective has been to create long-lasting furniture by using genuine materials that age beautifully.
The lamp Crystal Pendant consists of a dense cluster of pure crystals, from rare special edition prisms to the finest Swarowski´s. Inspired by the idea of an imploded chandelier, the structure results in an immense refraction of light.
Octagon stool is built on an oversized classical rattan weaving in leather and metal. Weavings is a reappearing element in the collection. It is based on influences from spending one year in Vietnam, where Clara developed environmental friendly design for the rattan industry with WWF. She also worked on a project about creating new design within handicraft, initiated by UN.
Craftworks is presented at Greenhouse, Stockholm furniture fair 7-11 february 2012.
